FUNDRAISING DRIVE: Elizabeth Dixon and the ladies of Dunnerholme Golf Club present a cheque for £710 to St Mary’s Hospice chief executive Val Stangoe
ASKAM’S Dunnerholme Golf Club Ladies Section have raised a whopping £710 for St Mary’s Hospice with a fundraising ‘drive’ that was well ‘above par’.
Last year’s lady captain, Elizabeth Dixon, and other members of the team came to St Mary’s Hospice today to present a cheque for the funds they raised to the hospice’s chief executive, Val Stangoe, and to enjoy lunch at The Orangery Café at the hospice.
During her year as captain in 2013, Ms Dixon nominated St Mary’s as her chosen charity after experiencing its services first hand when her mother was a patient at the hospice in 2006.
She said: “My mum was cared for at the hospice and the care she received meant so much to me, it is nice to be able to repay it a little. The hospice is a cause which is very dear to so many people’s hearts locally.”
She added: “A good chunk of the funds was raised through a small group of our ladies baking cakes which we sold in the clubhouse throughout the year.”
The hospice’s Val Stangoe said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support of group’s like the Dunnerholme Golf Club Ladies Section, which allows us to continue to offer a range of services for free at the hospice. Without this support we’d be unable to continue.”
The good news is that this year’s lady captain, Elaine Harris, has also nominated St Mary’s as her chosen charity and so the ladies of Dunnerholme will continue their fundraising drive on our behalf throughout the next 12 months.
